Dr Amber Logan (Ngāti Kahungunu) is an award winning New Zealand registered psychologist and public health scientist with expertise in psychological medicine, public health, and Indigenous wellbeing.

 

Dr Logan holds advanced qualifications from the University of Auckland School of Medicine and the University of Otago Division of Health Sciences. She has received numerous competitive scholarships and national recognition for her academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to Māori health, including the New Zealand Government’s John McLeod Award. In 2021, she was part of the public health research team awarded the Rutherford Medal, New Zealand’s highest scientific honour.

 

Her work has focused on Indigenous physical and mental health, intergenerational trauma, addiction, and the development of health promoting homes and communities grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems. Dr Logan initially specialised in psychological medicine before completing a PhD in public health, with her doctoral research thesis classified as exceptional.

 

Dr Logan has made significant contributions to culture based and trauma informed practice across psychology and public health. She has lectured and presented internationally and has collaborated with leading institutions including Harvard Medical School, the University of Washington, and Johns Hopkins University. Alongside her academic and research roles, she has contributed to policy development, programme design, and community based initiatives supporting Indigenous wellbeing.

 

In addition to her professional and academic work, Dr Logan has made numerous national and international film, radio, and television appearances as an expert commentator. She continues to contribute to Indigenous health and wellbeing through research, writing, and community engagement.
