Maudena is deeply rooted in Northland, having called it home for the majority of her life. She holds a law degree from the University of Auckland and brings substantial experience in report writing to our team. Maudena worked as a probation officer, preparing pre-sentence reports and electronic monitoring bail reports. Her role extended to working with supervision, community work, and home detention teams. Maudena's close connection to Te Ao Māori, surrounded by Te Reo Māori and Tikanga, is noteworthy. In her previous roles, she provided guidance to young individuals, aiding them in navigating the intricacies of the Rangatahi Court. Her work involved assisting young people in rediscovering their cultural identity, including their pepehā and establishing connections with the appropriate iwi and hapū support networks.
Beyond her legal career, Maudena is dedicated to the renaissance of traditional cultural practices and holds a fervor for areas like rongoā Māori, taonga puoro, and raranga. Her involvement with the Benefits Review Committee at the Ministry of Social Development highlights her commitment to enhancing the welfare of others. Maudena's extensive global experiences, including residing in Australia and Malaysia, have cultivated her deep appreciation for diverse cultures.
